The new Where Love Lives documentary about nightlife, featuring Kiddy Smile, Billy Porter, Honey Dijon, John ‘Jellybean’ Benitez, Kathy Sledge, Nicky Siano and others, explains how dance floors save lives.
The documentary film, which had its world premiere on YouTube on 18 March, tells the story of the enduring power of music. It is a story of acceptance and creative expression – reinforced and activated with a music club soundtrack.
Through numerous exclusive interviews with titans of nightlife culture, the contributors to Where Love Lives (Billy Porter, Honey Dijon, Kathy Sledge, Kiddy Smile, Lucy Fizz, John ‘Jellybean’ Benitez) and many others explore how people ‘on the margins of society’ are welcomed unconditionally into the centre of the dance floor.
Whether they are gay, lesbian, transgender or of any skin colour. Even better, the clubbing scene allows them to shine and express themselves like nowhere else.
Through the stories told by Glitterbox’s family of queer artists, dancers and performers, “Where Love Lives” explores the themes of identity and self-expression and the vital importance clubland plays for those whose identity is not fully accepted in the mainstream.
Expertly navigating through the history of nightlife culture, the film meets the fabulous creatures that inhabit it and connects the points that drew them to answer the call of dance music.
“Where Love Lives” is a message about acceptance, love and humility on the dance floor and beyond.
