What if music could become a path towards self discovery, a way to reconnect with one’s personal history and transform emotional wounds into creative strength?
With L’Odyssée d’Ange, Angela Coadou presents an immersive musical performance exploring the key stages of personal transformation.
Combining singing, live music, dance and poetic storytelling, this intimate creation invites audiences to journey through the emotions that shape a life, from loss to rebirth. Drawing on African, Caribbean and European influences, the performance also celebrates the richness of multiple identities and the importance of cultural transmission.
An intimate story told through a rich musical composition
Built around ten songs, L’Odyssée d’Ange retraces an initiatory journey inspired by Angela Coadou’s personal story. From awakening to bereavement, from anger to the search for meaning, the performance explores the different stages that lead to a deeper understanding of oneself. The voice, words, movement and sounds of the kora create a sensitive musical landscape in which each artistic discipline contributes to telling a part of the journey.
Originally from Cameroon and having lived in France for more than thirty years, Angela Coadou is a singer, songwriter, sound therapist and educator. Her personal journey informs an artistic expression shaped by different cultures and musical traditions. Soul and blues meet African, Caribbean and European sounds, creating a space for dialogue between cultural heritage and individual experience.
On stage, the artist is joined by backing vocalists, musicians and dancers in an immersive production combining live music, polyphonic singing and physical expression. This artistic diversity gives the performance its distinctive character, making it as much an emotional experience as a musical offering.
An invitation to make peace with one’s past
Beyond its personal narrative, L’Odyssée d’Ange explores our relationship with origins, memory and transmission. What do we retain from our family and cultural heritage? How can we embrace the different aspects of our identity to move forward with greater freedom? These questions run throughout the performance, allowing audiences to find their own points of connection with the story.
Presented by Éther Production, an arts association founded by the Coadou family, the project also embraces a commitment to sharing and artistic transmission. Audience discussions and workshops focusing on the voice, music creation and artistic expression can accompany performances, extending the experience beyond the stage.
An odyssey towards self discovery
With L’Odyssée d’Ange, Angela Coadou transforms her personal experiences into a work that speaks to universal human concerns. Lasting between 1 hour 15 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes, the performance invites audiences to embrace their emotions, reconnect with their roots and recognise reconciliation as an essential stage in personal growth. It is a creation in which cultures meet, music becomes a language of its own and the journey within opens the way to rebirth.
