On August 26th, World Dog Day celebrates the companions who share our everyday lives and our getaways. An increasing number of hotels and holiday homes are rethinking their hospitality to welcome four legged companions with just as much care and attention as their owners.
Cosy beds, dedicated menus, concierge services and outdoor spaces: pet friendly stays are becoming an experience in their own right. From Paris and the French Riviera to the Basque Country and the countryside, here are some addresses that certainly know how to welcome our canine companions.
Hotels rolling out the red carpet
In Paris, several five star establishments have made animal wellbeing a genuine part of their offering. At Hôtel de Crillon, the stay includes a comfortable bed, bowls, a welcome kit and menus specially designed for pets. Le Burgundy Paris offers a bed, treats, a soft toy and a dedicated concierge service, including dog walking and pet sitting.
At Kimpton St Honoré Paris, all four legged companions are welcomed with the same attention as their owners. The experience continues with the Doggy Brunch held on the first Sunday of each month at Montecito, where dogs can enjoy their own treats and personalised attention.
Just outside Paris, Waldorf Astoria Versailles Trianon Palace offers a Very Important Pets experience including a bed, bowl, bandana and handmade biscuits. The concierge can also arrange walks, grooming, pet sitting and veterinary appointments.
On the French Riviera, Carlton Cannes welcomes dogs with dedicated amenities and a Dog Menu made with seasonal ingredients. In Monaco, the hotels operated by Monte Carlo Société des Bains de Mer also provide beds, personalised accessories and dishes prepared by room service. In Saint Tropez, AREV St. Tropez completes the experience with tailored food, toys and branded accessories.
Finally, in Biarritz, Talaia Biarritz MGallery Collection takes a local approach with treats, dogccinos and specialist partners offering walks and animal massages.
Airbnb: the countryside is theirs too
For those who prefer fresh air and wide open spaces, Airbnb has unveiled a selection of pet friendly countryside homes. The platform reports that searches for pet friendly accommodation increase by almost 30% in summer compared with winter, while the number of pet friendly properties increased by almost 23% between 2023 and 2025.
Thanks to the Pets allowed filter, finding a suitable house, renovated farmhouse or chalet is easier than ever. Airbnb’s French selection includes a riverside house in Angles sur l’Anglin, a cabin with a Nordic bath in Busserolles, a traditional Landes house in Uza and a small farm in Paimpont.
Travelling together, simply
These addresses reflect a new approach to travel, where pets are no longer a logistical constraint but an integral part of the experience. With animal abandonment reaching a peak every summer, choosing suitable accommodation can also make travelling together easier for the whole family. Whether it is a five star getaway or a peaceful countryside escape, our companions now have their own favourite addresses too.
