Fat accumulation is a problem that affects many people depending on their lifestyle. In women, it is often noticeable on the buttocks and thighs and thus forms what is known as “horse’s breeches”. These small defects lead women to develop complexes, especially when it comes to putting on a swimming costume once summer arrives. Regaining one’s morphology thus becomes a priority. Today, cryolipolysis is presented as a solution to get rid of fat cells. However, is this solution really effective? Let’s take stock of the situation.
Horse breeches : what is it ?
Horse breeches are a recurrent problem for most women (about 65%). It is characterised by fat deposits on the buttocks, hips and thighs. The causes of this phenomenon are few. In general, it is due to a lack of sport and/or a poor diet. The appearance of riding breeches is therefore closely related to lifestyle. However, there may also be genetic causes and a predisposition to store fat there. It can also occur at puberty, after pregnancy or menopause in other women.
What is cryolipolysis ?
If it is considered as a treatment of the saddlebags by coolsculpting, cryolipolysis can be simply defined as crystallisation and destruction of adipocytes by cold. These adipocytes are cells specialised in the storage of lipids, therefore fat. This is a necessary and natural mechanism, but one which quickly becomes undesirable when it is too pronounced.
Cryolipolysis is therefore an effective treatment against the body’s fat cells. Its process is rather simple, it consists of exposing your body’s fat to a lower body temperature by using cold. Frequently used, this practice has the effect of promoting fat burning. It also presents itself as a gentle alternative to liposuction and cosmetic surgery.
The main objective of this practice is to reduce or even eliminate the fat deposits in the saddlebags to give the patient a nearly perfect figure.
How does cryolipolysis work ?
As mentioned above, the body is subjected to a low and controlled temperature during the treatment. Ideally, this temperature varies between 0 and 5°C. This temperature is often highlighted by beauty salons. Still, some doctors or paramedical institutes can lower the temperature to -10°C while maintaining control.
There are two main cryolipolysis techniques: suction cryolipolysis and plate cryolipolysis. These methods allow the use of specific devices that act on the adipocytes using cold. It should be mentioned that the interest of this treatment lies in the fact that the adipose cells of the fat masses cannot withstand the cold.
Thus, the treatment of saddlebags by coolsculpting exposes the fat tissue in the affected areas to a very low temperature. In contact with this coolness, the fat tissue on the treated surface crystallises and self-destructs. Cryolipolysis therefore promotes the selective destruction of accumulated fat in the hip, buttocks, thighs and arms.
Once these cells have been destroyed, they will be eliminated normally by the body after a few weeks. The results of a treatment of saddlebags by cryolipolysis are noticeable between 2 and 3 months.
How does the treatment work ?
Prior to any cryolipolysis treatment, the specialist must perform tests to determine if the patient is eligible for cryolipolysis. This means that this solution may not be effective on all fat cells. Indeed, cryolipolysis is not recommended if the fat deposits are too large or old, a surgical operation would be more effective. It is therefore strongly recommended to seek medical advice before choosing a coolsculpting treatment.
If the results of the examinations are conclusive, the practitioner measures the fat surface and marks the targeted area. Then, he applies a gel-impregnated tissue and the cryo wipes to the skin to ensure suction. It should be mentioned that the treatment is done with devices adapted to the patient’s morphology, shape and curves. As soon as the applicators are placed, the practitioner starts the cooling after a few adjustments.
During a coolsculpting session, both thighs can be treated at the same time using two devices. The treatment lasts on average 45 to 75 minutes. During this time, the patient can rest, read or listen to music while lying on his or her stomach. Throughout the process, the practitioner continuously checks the temperature to ensure that it is not too low.
At the end of the session, the operator removes all the equipment and performs a massage of the treated surfaces. This softens the fat deposits and facilitates their elimination. However, some side effects may occur due to the unusual temperature, but they will disappear after a few days.
Cryolipolysis treatment can also be extended to other affected parts of the body such as: the abdomen, inner thighs, hips, arms, etc. In general, it is applied to the different areas where fat pads are found.
Can we therefore conclude that cryolipolysis is effective against horse breeches ?
Coolsculpting treatment has many advantages. For people who are not overweight, this technology effectively removes fat deposits to slim the figure.
However, a single session is still insufficient to achieve the desired result. Several sessions will have to be planned in order to completely eliminate the fat cells in the saddlebags. It is also important to wait about 3 weeks between each session to ensure the patient’s safety. However, you should stick to your practitioner’s judgement.
Despite its many advantages, cryolipolysis is not sufficient in the long term. As mentioned above, the riding breeches are linked to lifestyle habits. It is therefore necessary to accompany this technology with a healthy diet and daily physical activity. You can use the service of a sports coach to get excellent advice on the exercises to be carried out according to the areas concerned.
All in all, it is worth remembering that cryolipolysis can be very effective against riding breeches when it is accompanied by a healthy lifestyle.
