According to a study by Grand View Research, the global vegan cosmetics market is expected to reach $20.8 billion by 2025.
What is vegan cosmetics ?
Veganism is a lifestyle that refuses the exploitation of animals and therefore excludes the consumption of animal products. In cosmetics, this means products that are not tested on animals and that do not contain any animal substances. Animal fats, but also eggs, wax, wool, hair etc., all these ingredients are banned from the recipes of our vegan cosmetics. We also ban materials such as collagen, glycerin and keratin from animal proteins.
Remember that since March 2013, the European Union has banned the sale of cosmetics tested on animals.
Vegan does not mean natural
Vegan cosmetics are not “natural” cosmetics like organic and “cruelty free” cosmetics. An organic cosmetic is not necessarily vegan because it may contain ingredients derived from animals. Similarly, a vegan product is not necessarily healthier or greener than its counterparts. If you are looking for more natural and ethical products, we invite you to read the labels of your cosmetics carefully !
Veganism : a marketing argument
The demand from millenials (people born between 1980 and 2000) has made the vegan trend explode. Many international brands have developed 100% vegan lines to meet consumer demand. Since the animal cause is at the heart of the world’s concerns, it is logical that consumers follow this trend.
Vegan products are becoming more and more numerous and are flooding the market. Nevertheless, one must be careful because brands are not required to display the origin of their products and some standards outside Europe are not applicable. 80% of countries including the United States and China do not have such regulations. China requires all cosmetic products to be tested on animals.
It is therefore advisable to consume natural products, even if it means making them yourself to be sure of what is in them !
