On 15 November 2023, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will be released in French theatres. Before the big day, here’s what you need to know about the long-awaited prequel.
The Hunger Games returns with its prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Based on the books by Suzanne Collins, this fifth chapter of the saga is sure to delight fans. On the programme: new actors and a plot that takes place long before the events of the first films. Here’s everything you need to know about this eventful film!
Young Coriolanus Snow in the spotlight
If Donald Sutherland made his mark on us as Coriolanus Snow, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes takes us back to his youth. The emblematic character, played here by Tom Blyth, is still a long way from the cruel President of the Capitol he is to become. In fact, the film explores Snow’s early days as the mentor of District 12. We’ll also discover the origins of the Hunger Games. It promises to be great!

A prestigious cast… without Jennifer Lawrence
Directed by Francis Lawrence, the director of the last three Hunger Games movies, the prequel brings together a five-star cast. Rachel Zegler, Hollywood’s rising star (West Side Story), will play Lucy Gray Baird. She will star opposite Tom Blyth. Viola Davis, Peter Dinklage and Jason Schwartzman will also be in the cast. A dream line-up of actors! But, as you may have guessed, Jennifer Lawrence and the former cast will not be present. Which makes sense, given that The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes takes place long before the uprising led by Katniss Everdeen.
