2023 looks like an exciting year for French cinema. Here are five French films to look out for in the movie theaters or streaming platforms.
Mon crime
A murder mystery film about a young actress who is suspected in the killing of a movie producer. Her best friend helps her solve the murder and also tries to prove her innocence. This film was directed by Francois Ozon and available on Vod, a streaming service, as well as in theaters.
L’Envol
A film by Pietro Marcello based on a novel by Alexander Grin tells the story of a woman on a journey of finding her own freedom over a 20 year period. The story documents her life in the years during World War I and World War ll from 1919 to 1939.
Les Enfants des autres
This film tells the story of a middle aged school teacher who is grappling with her age and if she wants to have children. This film touches on themes of feminism and women’s reproduction. This film was directed by Rebecca Zlotowski.
Le monde après nous
A film about a struggling writer whose life is changed when he meets a girl who shifts his perspective on life and habitual lifestyle. This is a drama by Louda Ben Salah Canzanas.
Petit nature
This film is about a 10 year old boy named Johnny and it tells the story of his life and his relationship with his teacher who shows him a new perspective. This is a coming of age story, comedy and drama directed by Theis Samuel.
