Since the miniseries “Solos”, which will be broadcast on Amazon’s streaming platform in 2021, Anne Hathaway has turned her attention to other film projects. Next May, she will star in the romantic fan fiction “The Idea of You”.
Anne Hathaway, cinema icon
Anne Hathaway is more than just a Hollywood actress. She is talented and her versatility has earned her roles in many successful films.
It was in 2006, with the critically acclaimed film The Devil Wears Prada, that Anne Hathaway became a cinematic icon. Her performance as the assistant to a tyrannical editor-in-chief demonstrated her ability to play complex roles and gain depth as an actress.
From there, the young New Yorker’s career took off, and she went on to star in over twenty feature films. She made quality choices and varied her roles. “Les Misérables, Interstellar and Love and Other Drugs are all part of her long filmography.
Focus on “The Idea of You”
On 2 May 2024, Anne Hathaway will star in “The Idea of You”, which will be available on Prime Video. The romantic comedy is an adaptation of the fan fiction novel of the same name by Robinne Lee.
Inspired by the life of former One Direction singer Harry Styles, the film tells the story of an unexpected and impossible love affair between a 40-year-old single mother and a 24-year-old singer, played by Nicholas Galitzine.
The director, Michael Showalter, gently denounces society’s view of the age difference between couples when it comes to a more mature woman. He also emphasises how difficult it is for a couple to blossom when the protagonists come from very different worlds.
Promise of success
Despite fierce criticism from some netizens angered by the idea of an Oscar-winning actress starring in a Prime Video fan film, romance film “The Idea of You” is already on track for international success.
Long before its release, the film’s trailer broke all records for a full-length streaming film with 125 million views across all platforms. Anne Hathaway gave the record an emotional welcome.
Previewed at the South by Southwest festival, the film won over audiences, who even compared it to a light candy. The American press also gave the comedy rave reviews.
