Fragrance is an essential accessory for many people, adding a touch of charm and personality to their daily lives.
However, fragrance longevity can be a challenge for some, as it can sometimes seem to fade quickly. Here are some tips on how to make your fragrance last all day:
Moisturise your skin
Well-moisturised skin retains fragrances better. Apply a fragrance-free moisturiser to your skin before spraying on your perfume. Make sure the cream is well absorbed before applying the fragrance to avoid altering the scent.
Don’t rub the fragrance into the skin – apply strategically
Warm areas of your body are ideal for applying perfume, as the heat helps to diffuse the scent. Spray perfume on areas such as the wrists, behind the ears, inside the elbows and behind the knees to maximise its longevity. After application, avoid rubbing your wrists together. This can break up the fragrance molecules and alter its scent. Avoid spraying perfume on your clothes, especially delicate or light-coloured fabrics that could be stained. If you want to scent your clothes, spray the fragrance from a distance of at least 20-30 centimetres to avoid potential stains and test on a small, inconspicuous area first.
Store correctly and use matching products
Keep your fragrance in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight. Light and heat can alter the chemical composition of perfume, which could reduce its longevity. Some fragrances have matching body lotions or shower gels, such as the Rituals brand. Using these products in conjunction with your perfume can help prolong its life, as they often share the same fragrance base.
By following these simple tips, you can maximise the longevity of your favourite fragrance and enjoy its pleasant scent all day long. Remember that the way a fragrance interacts with each individual’s skin can vary, so it may be worth experimenting to find the best method that works for you.
