We have already talked to you about the young French brand, Shutter Clothing. This season, Shutter is inspired by the winter atmosphere to propose a “BLACK & LIGHT” collection.
A monochrome collection that frees itself from colour to better sublimate light. Shadow effects, cold lights and shades of grey are expressed here on thicker cotton fleece fabrics adapted to the coolness of winter.
This collection highlights an original photographic point of view that places light at the centre of the reading of the image. With the T-shirt as a backdrop, the light draws the contours and forms the rough edges of the photographs for creations developed, each time, in limited edition. For the first time, there will be no white this season, the collection being based only on black and grey.
The “Black & Light” series is based on a reflection on the play of light with black and white only. The collection is based both on digitally developed photo visuals and, for the first time since the very first collection, on silk-screened typography.
The designers propose, through this collection, a focus on the structure and composition of the photo. Most of the photographs are a collection of travel memories from Jérôme and Mathieu, the brand’s founders. For this collection, Shutter continues its collaboration with MonsieurTok, whose Point Of View created for the SS15 season is here desaturated to highlight the exposure and curves of the photo.
Each season, Shutter accompanies its visuals with words and phrases that reflect the brand’s state of mind. For “Black & Light”, it is the relationship with light that is developed in negative with a visual (+/-) reminiscent of the exposure correction symbol on cameras and other retouching software.
For the first time, Shutter chooses to work with black and grey as the backdrop for its designs. This choice is accompanied by an evolution of the material and the detail, while continuing the qualitative approach which constitutes one of the fundamental aspects of Shutter’s creative process. We appreciate the minimalist and qualitative work proposed here by the designers.
