As part of the Nikon Film Festival, Johan Amselem directed the short film “Je suis Africain, noir et homosexuel” (“I’m African, black and gay”). The film was made at the request of the lead actor, who wrote it based on his own story.
Adams (who had to change his name) is 22 years old, gay, African and Muslim. The film presents the actor through 5 moments in his daily life, 5 moments that take on a particular significance here. The director says he is shocked to see that in 2015, the actor is changing his name to prevent some of his family and friends from seeing the film. Not because of a lack of courage, but because some people still see homosexuality as a disease that needs to be eradicated.
We hope that this short film will, in its own small way, change attitudes, or at least raise awareness. Discover the world of Johan Amselem and support his film.
