The French territory is rich and diversified in terms of landscapes and culture. There are many must-see places among the most visited in the world, as well as lesser-known but equally beautiful places !
What is a road trip ?
A road trip is a long trip on the road. The road trip is appropriate when you want to visit a whole country or several cities. It is a way to visit at your own pace and in autonomy. The basis of this trip is a vehicle, most frequently a car or a van, but it can also be a motorcycle. The road trip is open to everyone! If you want freedom, adventure and discovery, then the road trip is for you !
However, it is important to be well prepared. Divide the organization between you if there are several of you. You have to prepare the itinerary, choose the means of transportation, list the budget per person, define the places to visit and the places to spend the night (if you don’t have a van equipped for example).
The road trip is a practice that has developed in the last few years. There are blogs and instagram accounts dedicated to this practice. It’s a great way to discover the richness of a country while staying away from mass tourism.
Our favorite road trips
As we explained above, the French territory is full of regions with different cultures and landscapes. Why go far away, when we have everything we need on our territory. Taking a road trip in France is a good way to rediscover the regions and culinary specialties of France.
1/ The Great Alps Road
Famous for crossing 3 national parks, 17 passes and sumptuous lakes, this road trip is only possible between June and October ! You have to start from Lake Geneva, then cross the Aravis, Iseran, Galibier and Vars passes to reach the Mediterranean.
You can push on to the French Riviera if you wish. We recommend you to do this itinerary in 1 week or more to take the time to enjoy the beauty of these exceptional landscapes.
2/ Brittany and its islands
Breathtaking wild landscapes on the edge of the Atlantic, yes, Brittany wins you over ! Visit Saint-Malo, the Mont Saint-Michel, the Emerald Coast, the Pink Granite Coast to arrive in Finistère. Stop on the islands of Bréhat, the Glénan archipelago and the island of Houat. In one week of time, with a lot of organization and many ferries, admire the Breton landscape and taste its land !
3/ The Gorges du Verdon
This is an exceptional site to do at least once in your life. Dive into the heart of the canyon, in the crystal clear water, observe the picturesque villages and enjoy hikes that will give you an impressive view of the whole canyon. In 4 to 5 days, visit Valensole and its Lavender fields, then Aiguines, pass by the Col d’Illoire, the Falaise de Baucher and the Falaise des Cavaliers. Arrive at Trigance, take the Pont de Soleils to Rougon. From there, go to Palud sur Verdon to arrive at Moustier Sainte Marie, where the adventure ends !
