Located in Paris’s 11th arrondissement, Gourou offers a generous and characterful take on Indian cuisine. We tried several of the restaurant’s specialties, and they more than lived up to expectations. Here’s our verdict.
Gourou opened its doors in the autumn of 2025 in Paris’s 11th arrondissement. Conceived by Valentin Bauer and chef Adrien Bouchaud, this new restaurant shines a spotlight on the many facets of Indian gastronomy. Behind a façade inspired by the small street-side shops of the Indian subcontinent, the venue immediately immerses guests in a warm and inviting atmosphere.
A restaurant born from a genuine passion for India
Before opening their restaurant, the two founders launched Gourou as a delivery service in 2019. After several years of reflection, they decided to expand the concept into a fully fledged dining destination, where every detail evokes their travels across India.
At the helm in the kitchen, Adrien Bouchaud works with carefully sourced fresh ingredients. The menu alternates between popular street-food classics and slow-cooked dishes inspired by family traditions. Together, they offer a glimpse into the richness of Indian cuisine, extending far beyond the staples commonly found in Indian restaurants.
Our tasting experience
We began with the Zukini Pakora, delicious zucchini fritters made with chickpea flour. Their light batter and crisp texture made each bite particularly satisfying. Next came the Masala Vadai, prepared with red lentils, boasting a beautifully golden crust and a soft, tender centre. A perfect 10 out of 10.
If there was one dish that truly stood out, it was undoubtedly the Butter Chicken. The tandoor-cooked chicken was exceptionally tender, while the tomato-based sauce enriched with almonds and cashews delivered remarkable depth of flavour.
Finally, the Vada Pau—a soft bun filled with a chickpea-battered potato fritter and served with chutneys and chilli pickles—proved to be our absolute favourite. Soft, crunchy and perfectly balanced, it encapsulates everything one hopes for in generous, comforting cuisine.
