If you’re a fan of good music, head to the Bobino theatre to discover the musical Black Legends. We warn you: emotion and groove guaranteed.
Legendary classics
Black Legends is a musical celebrating a century of African-American music, tracing the history of African-Americans through 37 dynamic tableaux. From Cab Calloway to Beyoncé, via Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston, the show offers an immersion in genres such as gospel, jazz, soul, funk, disco, hip-hop and R&B. The performances are brought to life by an energetic troupe of singers, dancers and live musicians, all enhanced by a hundred or so costumes and a highly meticulous set design.
After winning over 200,000 spectators in its first season, the show is currently being extended at the Théâtre Bobino in Paris until 26 April 2025, and is touring until 2026. The reviews have been rave reviews, because this is an exceptional musical!
Art is political
Beyond the music, Black Legends also evokes the history of African-Americans, highlighting the struggle for equality and emancipation through the ages. It’s a festive, moving and powerful tribute to black culture, immersing the audience in an immersive experience of energy, emotion and nostalgia. It’s a way of transmitting culture without appropriation, and a real connection with the audience.
More than a musical, it’s a show with depth, an incredible retrospective, thanks in particular to historical themes such as segregation, the Ku Klux Klan, pacifism and the election of Barack Obama.
