Bang Gang, a modern love story inspired by a crime that took place in the United States in 1999, was the film that electrified the TORONTO festival.
The affluent suburbs of a city on the Atlantic coast. George, a pretty 16-year-old girl, falls in love with Alex. To attract his attention, she launches a group game in which her gang of friends discover, test and push back the limits of their sexuality. Amid scandals and the collapse of their value systems, each of them deals with this intense period in radically different ways. A film by Eva Husson, starring Finnegan Oldfield, Marilyn Lima, Daisy Broom & Lorenzo Lefebvre. See it in cinemas on 13 January 2016.
Our opinion after seeing the film by Mathilde Thomas:
Today I went to see Bang-Gang (a modern love story) and I was full of preconceptions. I came out pleasantly shaken up. It was violent in feeling but hyper-right, with beautiful lighting and a permanent atmosphere. The film was full of excess to make up for teenage loneliness, almost a collective depression! Of course, I’m a bit embarrassed that they’re so young (16), but when you think about it, it’s not that far off from some bands of that age… I really thought I was going to laugh at how ridiculous it was going to be, but not at all, it was a really interesting premise and a nice reflection. The ending was perfect because there was no other way to end the story.
