Today, we present Area, a young brand that focuses on transforming textiles.
Created in 2013 by two talented young people that nothing would have ever seemed to bring together, Piotrek Panszczyk and Beckett Fogg. Yet these two complement each other wonderfully and form a duo worthy of the greatest. Piotrek, originally from Poland, studied fashion design in Holland before moving to Paris to work for Chloé. Turning now to Beckett, this young American, originally from Kentucky, graduated from the University of Virginia where she studied architecture.
In her final year, she realised that fashion design interested her. That’s when the destinies of the two became intertwined. Both went on to do a master’s degree at the Parsons School of Design in New York. Once there, the two artists realised that their respective creations had many similarities and that their vision was almost identical.
Both will bring different skills to the table. Piotrek, who comes from a family of model-makers, is very comfortable with the cut. Beckett, on the other hand, brings his architectural skills to bear on the garment. The result is silhouettes that are rhythmic, elegant and very well controlled. Although most of the pieces are easily wearable and look rather simple, the quantity and quality of the work behind them is substantial. The two designers have a real expertise in materials. Rarely do they use a fabric in its basic form, seeing it as a starting point, like a blank canvas just waiting to be reworked.
