Between traffic jams, long journeys by car or plane and lazy days on the beach, holidays can sometimes mean spending long periods inactive. After several hours sitting down, your body can start to feel the effects: a stiff back, neck tension, tight shoulders or reduced joint mobility.
Yet, contrary to popular belief, the issue is not necessarily ‘poor posture’. It is mainly prolonged inactivity that can affect physical comfort. So what if just a few minutes of movement could make these moments more comfortable?
When holidays put your body to the test
Whether travelling by car or plane, spending long hours in the same position limits joint movement and keeps certain muscles under tension. The upper back, shoulders, hips and lower back are particularly affected.
The same applies during the holidays. After several hours lying on a beach towel or sitting on a terrace, your body may simply need more movement. The aim is certainly not to turn your holiday into an intensive fitness programme, but simply to change position regularly, walk and keep your body moving.
A few minutes can be enough. Walking during a motorway break, moving your shoulders during a stopover or doing some gentle stretches after arriving can all help restore a greater sense of comfort.
Flexifit, your mobility companion wherever you go
This is precisely where Flexifit caught our attention. This French stretching and mobility app was founded by Jessica Prevalet, a professional contortionist and former national level gymnast.
Its concept is simple: make movement accessible to everyone, without focusing on performance and without requiring any equipment. The app offers progressive programmes with short 15 to 25 minute sessions, making them easy to incorporate into a holiday routine.
Morning Routine, Mobility First, First Stretch and Beginner Stretch all help users gradually improve their mobility and release tension in key areas. Some exercises can also be performed while seated, making them particularly useful before or after a long journey.
We particularly enjoyed trying a Beginner Stretch session. Accessible and progressive, it is a great way to reconnect with your body without putting yourself under any pressure.
Move, even for just a few minutes
Holidays are a time to slow down, but that does not necessarily mean staying still. Between swims, during a break on the road or after several hours of travelling, a few minutes of movement can make all the difference.
With an accessible approach such as the one offered by Flexifit, mobility becomes a simple habit to incorporate into everyday life, even when you are away from home. This summer, the best habit might simply be to move a little more, a little more often.
