After a first successful EP released on last March, the former member of the Klaxons announces the release date of his eponym album ” Shock Machine ” on June 2nd of this year.
Shock Machine was recorded in a hut in the South of France, produced by James Ford (who collaborated with Arctic Monkeys, Florence + The Machine, Haim) and mixed by Ben H Allen (Collective Gnarls Barkley, Animal, Deerhunter). The album cover is from Rob Carmichael, notably known for his works with Animal Collective, Panda Bear and Dirty Projectors.
Produced by the label Marathon Artists (Courtney Barnett label, Jagwar Ma, Baaba Maal), the project is a succession pop tracks inspired by the big names of the 70s – from Todd Rundgren and Dennis Wilson to the first works of Paul McCartney and Roxy Music – but reworked in a, exuberant, psychedelic 21th century version, to make something really modern. A kind of ” Benny and the Jets of Elton John on acids ” according to the artist.
Through the album, we feel the desire of James Right to create his own style, his own universe, far from actuel trends. The Shock Machine album is a story about somebody falling in love again with the music.
