Among fashion design competitions, the LVMH Prize is undoubtedly one of the most recognised and prestigious.
Created in 2013 by Bernard Arnault, owner of the monstrous group, with the aim of supporting young creation through two different prizes :
- The “Young Designer” prize is open to designers from any country who have produced and marketed more than two ready-to-wear collections for men or women and are under 40 years of age. The prize consists of a 300,000 euro grant and 12 months of personalised support.
- The “Graduates” prize, open to young fashion school students. The three winners will be provided with a grant of 10,000 euros and the opportunity to join the creative team of one of the Group’s fashion houses for one year.
The splendour of this competition is, of course, its remarkable jury, which includes the likes of Nicolas Ghesquière, Ricardo Tisci, Karl Lagerfeld, Phoebe Philo and Marc Jacobs. This jury only comes into play at the end of the competition, after the expert panel has shortlisted 10 finalists. The panel is also made up of some forty leading personalities, including Emmanuelle Alt (Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris), Sarah Andelman (Creative Director of Colette), Alexandre de Betak (Bureau Betak), Natalia Vodianova (Top model), Patrick Demarchelier (Photographer), Suzie Menkes (International Editor of Vogue) and Olivier Saillard (Director of the Palais Galliera). And this year’s newcomer, Karlie Kloss!
So would you like to give it a go ? It’s all online ! You have until 7 February to submit your application for the Young Entrepreneurs prize and until 15 May for the Young Graduates prize. The winners will then be announced in mid-June.
