Australia is invited to relive the experience and magic of the Lexus Melbourne Cup.
The year 2021 marks the 19th anniversary of the Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour. Over the years, the trophy has travelled over 750,000 kilometres and visited more than 530 cities in Australia, New Zealand and around the world.
The Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour national campaign is back. Only 24 rural and regional destinations across Australia will have the opportunity to receive a gate for the 2021 Lexus Melbourne Cup. But only the city that raffles off the gate of the Cup winning horse will receive a $50,000 cash prize to be donated to a designated charity for a local community initiative.
The bushfire-ravaged community of Kangaroo Island in South Australia received the $50,000 donation for the Royal Flying Doctors last year after Twilight Payment won the Lexus Melbourne Cup. Inspired by this initiative, the Twilight Payment owners’ group contributed to reach a total of $100,000.
Kangaroo Island Racing Club President Mark Turner said: “It was a fantastic experience to be part of last year’s tour and winning the sweep was phenomenal. When Twilight Payment crossed the finish line everyone jumped up and screamed. We even had people crying with emotion”. Last year’s tour was unparalleled in history due to the COVID-19 pandemic and saw the People’s Cup virtually visit interstate destinations.
The process of the tour is simple: once selected as a destination, communities will be supported by the VRC to plan and host a series of memorable community events during the Cup visit. A team of racing legends will accompany the trophy as ambassadors of the Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour and share the unforgettable moments of the Melbourne Cup with the community.
Registrations can be made online at MelbourneCupTour.com.au until Wednesday 7th April. Successful candidates for the 2021 Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour will be announced in June and the tour will officially begin in July.
