UNIQLO welcomes the start of the year by announcing a four-year partnership with the Louvre Museum.
The objective of this new partnership is to offer a varied programme in order to better familiarise the public with the museum’s must-see masterpieces and thus increase the place of art in our daily lives.
The first chapter of this partnership between UNIQLO and the Louvre Museum: a new collection of UT Musée du Louvre with exclusive designs, launched on February 4th.
The collection features a UT (UNIQLO T-shirt) line for men designed by the eminent British graphic designer Peter Saville, well known for revolutionising the design of record sleeves in the early 1980s, particularly for Joy Division and New Order. His graphic approach was inspired by the inventory number system used by the museum to reference works of art.
For the UT women’s collection, the designs illustrate the museum’s universal masterpieces honouring the representation of women in the history of art. This collection will be expanded with new pieces until 2024.
The novelties of this collaboration are not over yet as, from spring 2021, UNIQLO will sponsor the Nocturne du samedi launched in January 2019 by the Louvre Museum. Conceived as a festive and privileged moment, this free nocturnal opening aims to encourage new visitors to discover the Louvre and its works in a unique environment.
On this occasion, the museum’s opening hours are extended on the first Saturday of each month from 6:00 pm to 9:45 pm. Visitors are invited to wander through the three wings of the Louvre, discovering masterpieces of art history and the little-known corners of the former palace of the kings of France.
UNIQLO’s partnership with the Louvre also includes sponsorship of the educational programme “Mini-Discovery Visits”, a new format launched by the Louvre in July 2020. Mainly dedicated to families, these 20-minute guided tours take place on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
