As we head into the rainy New Year, we could all do with a bit of novelty and fresh sounds, couldn’t we? DJ Tobtok delivers just that, with a cover of Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’.
Tobtok, real name Tobias Karlsson, is a 23-year-old Swede who has conquered the world of house and nu-disco. An ambitious young man, he seizes every opportunity that comes his way, and with good reason: he beat cancer a few years ago. A true fighter, he has requested to come back stronger than ever, and is now represented by Kitsuné and The Good Soldier.
This cover of ‘Fast Car’ is refreshing, motivating and everything you could want! The husky voice of the sublime Tracy Chapman is replaced by the more effeminate and sensual voice of English singer River, a different genre but just as pleasing. We find the acoustic guitar of the original track, mixed with tropical notes and a funky groove. Currently in Spotify’s global Viral 40, we can only hope that Tobtok continues to build on his success. And we hope to be on holiday by the sea with this remix in our ears as soon as possible!
