Why is Şahin Demir the artist to follow?
Şahin Demir is a Turkish painter born in 1987 in Mardin, known for his portraits and abstract works that explore emotions through deconstructed faces and expressive textures. He graduated from Selçuk University in 2011. His work is characterised by portraits that combine realistic clothing with abstract faces, often devoid of features, created with swirling brushstrokes and a muted colour palette. He uses textured surfaces to express his personal experiences and reinforce the emotional dimension of his works.
The exhibition ‘Facing a Look’ brings together eight works that highlight a marked and varied use of colour. Each painting captures the attention with its contrasting shades and expressive textures. Female portraits take centre stage, thanks in particular to the depth of their gazes, which serve as a true conduit for emotion.
