With a performance that fuses the styles and genres of urban culture, Ollie is a veritable hymn to vibrant youth.
The preview of Ollie was held at the Théâtre du Châtelet on 24 April. The show is staged around a skateboard ramp. The stage show is accompanied by a live performance on stage, which, like a DJ set, electrifies the show.
A stage performance fusing multiple expressions of urban culture
“The OLLIE project was born of a meeting between Morgan Bouvant, producer and general coordinator, and Nicolas Musin, choreographer and visionary set designer. Together, they imagined bringing this new Paris stage with this new show, a fusion of urban and contemporary dance, skateboarding and parkour”.
The show features a multi-faceted scenography, using the skateboard ramp as a means of expression. The ramp becomes the site of acrobatics for the tracers, skateboarders and dancers. The dance mixes contemporary, hip-hop and voguing. The choreographers are trained by the Compagnie UMA (Urban Move Academy), directed by Nicolas Musin. The Urban Move Academy is a creative academy based in Geneva. Its programme is an educational and artistic project dedicated to young people, part of the urban culture movement.
“UMA combines in a single place the teaching of the arts of movement and displacement in interaction with creative and scenic experience, as well as the visual and digital arts. UMA is inventing a new kind of project, in response to the aspirations and practices of young people”.
The choreographers bring together young talent aged between 18 and 24. The entire production shows a youth in perpetual movement, spirited and full of questions. Each member of the company embodies their own identity through their performance.
Musical performance
The musical creation of the Ollie show, supervised by Pedro Winter, brings together young talents from the French electronic music scene. The soundtrack is made up of 13 tracks, accompanied by poems by Kae Tempest, Mark Gonzales and Matt Lloyd, adding a poetic dimension to this stage experience.
The music evolves with the choreography, moving from more underground and raw electronic sounds to softer melodies in moments of calm. It blends perfectly with the visual identity of the show, immersing us in a rich and varied universe. The musical artists chosen are from the same generation as the choreographers, aged around 25, creating a real harmony between the two disciplines.
