The inspiring collaboration between NikeLab and Stone Island

In 2016 Nike will be paying tribute to its greatest clothing icon: the Nike Windrunner. Created in 1978 by Nike’s first clothing designer, the Nike Windrunner was revolutionary for its row sleeves and 26-degree chevron design. It was created at a time of great innovation.

This jacket was the first Nike garment to be worn by athletes before and after competition. Its silhouette has never left the catwalks or the streets, and is worn by everyone from marathon runners to breakdancers. To mark the launch of this year-long celebration, Nike and Stone Island are combining their two brands to create a unique garment, the NikeLab x Stone Island Windrunner. The Nike Windrunner innovates once again with a unique fabric and Stone Island’s piece dyeing techniques. The chevron hood of the NikeLab x Stone Island Windrunner is made from Stone Island’s two most iconic fabrics, Mussola Gommata and Nylon Metal.

Specific double piece dyeing formulas give a unique depth of colour to pieces made from these two special materials, as well as to their textile accessories. The addition of a special agent to the dye formula makes the garment water-repellent. The NikeLab x Stone Island Windrunner offers both lightness and superior thermal performance. The lightweight fibres, thanks to their specific treatment, create an airy, waterproof and breathable structure. Their variable diameter structure makes the garment very compact.

The collaboration includes a special edition of the Nike Koth Ultra Mid SI hybrid trainer. Inspired by the Nike Air Mowabb, the revolutionary 1991 hybrid trainer, the Nike Koth Ultra Mid all-weather shoe is made from waterproof materials and Stone Island Mussola Gommata. The shoe has excellent grip and flexible ankle support, combined with a phylon midsole for enhanced cushioning and long-lasting support, embossed lugs for superior grip and durability, and flexible grooves for natural freedom of movement.

The buckle at the heel makes it easy to slip the shoe on and off, and the heel reinforcement enhances the fit. The NikeLab x Stone Island collaboration will be available on 17 December 2015 from Stone Island flagships stores and selected NikeLab and Nike.
