After a year of stalling and darkness, we refocused on the ancient proposition of “Who are you ?”, examining our own identity. Which role are we playing and who we are ?
The designer of INTERDEE find the inspiration from the theater culture and related symbols to launch 2021 autumn/winter ready-to-wear collection, which is full of poetic and self-examination.
“Theater Spirit” is the core of this collection. Looking back at the early days of the “Belle Époque” in the 19th century, people was eager to re- breath after the interminable darkness. The famous actor Sarah Bernhardt appeared in stage, she is well-known in Europe and the United States. Being called “The divine Sarah”, she is regarded as a representative of the French entertainment spirit. It can be said that Sarah was the star of the world before the concept of “star” was born, she showed the world how to define “Variety”.
The 20th century was an age of dazzling stars, countless artists were born. Female artists Maria Callas, Josephine Baker, and Montmartre painters represented by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, are also the muses of this season. Together they promote and enrich the theater culture. These actors appeared at the front of the stage and gradually became “stars” in the modern sense.
With darkness, we gained introspection. Individualism has been given many different meanings nowadays. Since the advent of the media, everyone can become “star”. The image of women is constantly being subverted, and being given new identities, no longer limited. This season’s neat silhouette and stiff design have shaped an independent woman, wearing a skirt, a coat and boots, ready to interpret a variety of roles.
Every generation has experienced the moment from darkness to embracing the Light. Once the pandemic is over, we will usher in a new era. The addition of colors in the new season of INTERDEE also means that we will move from darkness to splendid days, A new “Belle Époque”.
“Who are you?” This is an introspection and a rhetorical question, asking the world, what era will we create? Leang go of the depressed mood, leang go of the past regrets, restoring the courage to embrace the splendor. Facing ourselves and the society with an optimistic attitude. This is the spirit that this collection hopes to bring to the audience.
Through the language design, INTERDEE pondered and proposed a way out: Restart to make a free, and vibrant new world.
