Making resolutions is always a positive step, even if you only reach 1% of your goals. This allows you to channel the anxiety generated by the beginning of the new year and not to live in remorse.
Where do the resolutions come from?
The ritual of establishing resolutions at the beginning of each year, comes from Antiquity in Babylon. The inhabitants promised the Gods to repay their debts and return their borrowed items in order to reset the meters. The Romans make the same promises to Janus, the God of beginnings and endings who has two faces. One side is turned towards the past and the other towards the future. The tradition has continued ever since, thanks to a symbolic date : January 1. A date that predicts the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.
Fighting procrastination
It’s time to stop putting everything off. To be productive, try to avoid distractions. Alternate between your shifts and a few breaks. Of course, this requires some mental discipline. We all procrastinate at work and at home. This procrastination gives us a sense of guilt or burden. The reasons for procrastination can be a task that is not pleasant, a fear of failure and not knowing where to start.
Productivity peaks
The times of the day when we are most productive are the middle of the morning. The peak of productivity occurs at 10:30 am, the time to wake up and get into a state of concentration. Not surprisingly, the return from lunch break is the time when one is the least effective. Our body draws its energy from digestion.
The energy boost also occurs in the middle of the afternoon, around 4pm. This schedule is when we realize that some of the work they had to do during the day has been outstanding but they have to leave on office time.
Make a Journal Bullet
The bullet journaling, or bujo, is a method based on the “to do list” principle. You create headings for your goals and list the things you can do to achieve them. With annotations, you provide explanations as your project and your day progresses.
The bullet journal is an organizational aid. It saves you considerable time. No need to search everywhere for lists or post-its. Writing and putting your goals on paper is a great way to relieve stress and tension. You better record information to keep it in mind throughout the day.
In conclusion, the goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of the year are very useful for taking stock of bad habits to change. Those that are also called resolutions are proof of a great strength of mind because you aspire to always want to do better. Just trying is a big win.
