The French region of Bretagne cultivates the experience of openness by giving access to distant lines, to dizzying perspectives but also to coastal or country views, to unexpected urban zooms… without any fuss.
Taste the open horizons
To travel in Bretagne is to be at one with the raw beauty from the roofs of Bretagne or by going into its entrails, its forests, its gorges, its canals or its marine depths.
Watching dolphins. Mastering the art of sublimating buckwheat, the black gold of Brittany. Sleeping alone on an island. Meet a lighthouse keeper. Bretagne awakens
the atlas of memories or desires of always and of one day.
Preserving the views but also the silences that reveal the sounds of nature – from the waves to the chlorophyllous rustles – but also the echoes of adventure. To inhabit nature through free movement. By happy mobility, by train trip to travel to the end of the line in Bretagne, unless one prefers to criss-cross it on foot or by bike, or admire the sunsets in indoor/outdoor mode from one’s van.
A Breton minimalist experience
The joy of minimalist travel: without knowing it, we are vibrating with a certain new cool. Here, we find the spirit of the original surfing, the beautiful gesture of harvesting salt flower or seaweed on the foreshore, the tasty and raw tasting of an oyster at an oyster farmer’s or the very special soul of underground festivals.
And because we are so persistent in our ideas, we also rub shoulders with the Breton avant-garde. Here, committed designers who brilliantly promote abalone shells, over there, a pop, colourful, recycled and recyclable clothing line, or further afield, creative frugality around mother-of-pearl.
An immersive freedom to discover the Bay of Quiberon, travelling from Rennes to the Crozon peninsula and/or from Redon to the Breton Riviera. A short passage from Ploërmel to Guémené-sur-Scorff will allow you to experience Breton architectural nuggets.
Several activities are also possible for solo travellers. From the Van life to inland Brittany, passing through Cornouaille, freewheeling from the Pointe du Raz to Penmarch’. From the Pointe du Raz, you can experience the vertigo of the Saint-They chapel clinging to the Pointe du Van, alone against the immensity of the ocean. And of course, endless foreshore trekking on the Goëlo Coast.
The 5 elements are also on the programme with vegetal addresses, wood passion and cocooning atmosphere. We look forward to these Zen cocoons to escape the surrounding bustle. Here, the show is as much exterior as interior. You will be served: floating nests with a view, a stay in an old planted wine storehouse as well as an experience at Léhontine, a guest house and concept store with a view of the Rance and the Écluse, located in Léhon.
The Littoral de Kerlouan also has many surprises in store for you! It reveals itself as it is, without additions or frills. It is in itself a taste enhancer. With one stroke of the fork or pedal, you can cross unfiltered worlds without even realising it.
You will experience a hybrid journey in third places. In Brest, we are looking forward to the opening of the PAM, a mythical former printing works, by the beginning of 2023. Brittany is also a land of new concepts. The Commodore Hostel is the world’s first travelling surf hostel, which travels from spot to spot in Brittany in nomadic road surfing mode. La Ferme de Kerguelen in Saint-Pol-de-Léon has reintroduced Kale in Brittany by becoming a pioneer in organic farming.
Culture and art are one
Are you a fan of bookstore cafés? Brittany has just what you need. On the wild corniche of Morlaix, halfway between a wine cellar, a grocery shop and a bookshop, the café Caplan & Co is an atypical spot that smells of meetings. For festival fans, the Festival Maintenant in Rennes, which lasts for four days in October, brings contemporary creation between music and digital arts to life.
For the more creative, Brittany is a fine example of committed creation. Marine elements or diverted minerals… Long live neo-Brittany creation in all its forms! The Finisterian workshop MoonKey Créations uses fruit skins to make leather goods accessories using a solar oven. And when the distillery also becomes a perfumery, the result is the Rose des Vents in La Pointe du Raz. A common vessel for these fine local flowers: distillation and still!
A recognised French know-how: committed and jubilant gastronomy. Brittany’s chefs are busy working on a joyfully committed gastronomy. In Vannes, Empreinte relies on a minimalist menu that changes every week. Chef Baptiste Fournier sources his own products from producers within a 30 km radius or from the market.
Brittany is a mine of tasty raw products, to be enjoyed without frills, in their natural state, but also to be discovered in a retwist mode thanks to an ingenious creative breath. Chefs and fashion and tableware designers are revisiting their practices by combining the preservation of materials and the environment with their vision of beauty and goodness. Cuisine and creation are not lacking in resources.
You will live your adventure with abalones that have some under the shell, the 1001 lives of seaweed, Breton wool twisted, the nuggets of nature (herbal teas, seeds, plants…) and the slow fashion. You will of course be able to experience what goes on behind the scenes of creation. The idea: to slip into the underbelly of Breton creation to capture the flash of a gesture, a know-how and the almost scripted transformation of the raw products that Brittany has to offer.
Immersive workshops and the Do it yourself art
From a beauty, you can make your own Breton sailor’s knife. For the more daring, you can play with fire by becoming a glass blower. Would you like to take a gastronomic plunge and put your taste buds on alert? A hint of vintage and childhood hovers over the artisan confectioner Maison Guella, in Saint-Malo and Cancale. The recipes for Breton biscuits, soft caramels and confectionery have not changed for three generations.
The Breton experience is a 100% local immersion: creating an active epic, the Breton experiences allow travellers to meet passionate Bretons. From April to October, a dive into captivating, captivating, generous and unsuspected worlds.
Last month, thanks to the immersive experience we had at Mersea Paris, we were able to discover the French region of Bretagne on the occasion of the Tourisme Bretagne event. The immediacy of a crush, of an encounter, of a love at first sight, of an experience of freedom. The long time of memories. To visit the region of Bretagne is to experience a moment out of the box and unvarnished !
