Adopting a minimalist decor makes a flat sleek and elegant and creates a peaceful atmosphere.
What is minimalism ?
For most people, minimalism means owning almost nothing, only what is necessary. You might immediately think of a house with one bed, a shelf almost empty of clothes, walls without colour or decoration.
But being a minimalist is more a way of life. It consists of keeping only what makes us feel good. Our closest friends, a candle that smells particularly good, good quality clothes… and so on.
And yes, minimalism is also a way of consuming. We only buy what we want after careful consideration. This means you spend less and don’t regret certain purchases.
Experiencing the void
We often think that to decorate our flat we need lots of furniture, figurines and paintings to fill the space. But a space doesn’t necessarily need to be filled. An uncluttered shelf can showcase the cover of your favourite book, or display an object of great sentimental value.
By ‘experiencing emptiness’, we can feel calmer. We spend less energy concentrating on all the objects around us, whether they’re tidy or not. Having less stuff allows us to invest in good quality objects that will last over time and are of value to us. Because these possessions are important and we have fewer of them, we pay much more attention to them and take better care of them.
Uncluttered but elegant decor
To decorate your flat in a minimalist way, all you have to do is keep only what you like. Choose second-hand, modern or vintage furniture to display in your flat. Leave the surfaces free; leaving just a book or a plant will make cleaning easier and remove the impression of clutter.
Don’t hesitate to play with contrasts. A dark wooden piece of furniture works well with a cream-coloured carpet and a pale pink plant or candle. Navy blue plates and silver cutlery give your dinner a completely different energy.
Try minimalism and give your flat some character, simply and effectively !
