BÉHEN studio, founded by Joana Duarte, has been announced as the winner of the second International Sustainable Fashion Design Contest.
BÉHEN pieces are made with antique bed covers and hand-embroidered table cloths in partnership with Aga Khan Foundation and made by unemployed Portuguese and migrant women living in Lisbon.
This brand’s mission is to preserve and promote Portuguese heritage and savoir-faire but also to contribute to other communities around the world.
“For me, it’s not only about sustainability in terms of materials, but it’s also about the people involved, the techniques used, and the positive impact that a project can have on society,” said Joana Duarte, the founder of BÉHEN.
