2015 is just beginning and it promises to be a busy year for cinema, with a release schedule packed with blockbusters. 50 Shades of Grey, the return of the Avengers and Star Wars, here are our 10 must-sees
50 Shades of Grey
After the worldwide success of the hottest book of the moment, the film adaptation was long overdue. It’s done, the movie is completed and will be released on February 11th, and will tell you the adventures of the rich Christian Grey and his conquests.
Taken 3
After Paris and Istanbul, the Oscar-winning actor Liam Neeson takes us to Los Angeles for the third part of Taken. Action, chases and explosions are to be expected for the return of the former secret agent played by the actor. To be seen on January 21st.
Avengers : Age of Ultron
Marvel fans can rejoice, the avengers are back, and frankly, this 2nd part is going to be heavy. Tony Stark and his band will face the dangerous Ultron, a robot created to defend and protect the planet. Josh Wedon is still directing and the cast will be completed by Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, James Spader, and Josh Brolin who will lend his voice to the not so nice Thanos. To find all these nice people, you will have to wait until April 29th.
Birdman
If there’s one film that’s in the lead for the Oscar race, it’s Birdman. Directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inaritu, the film tells the story of an actor’s search for his former glory. Michael Keaton, made famous for his unforgettable interpretation of Batman in the late 1980s, before becoming rare, fits the character perfectly. A film nominated in 9 categories at the Oscars, to be seen from 25 February.
Star Wars
Unquestionably the most anticipated film of the year, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens will transport you to a “galaxy far, far away”. The story takes place 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. Every piece of news about the film is a buzzword and is scrutinised by millions of fans. The cast includes Harisson Ford, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o and others. Directed by JJ Abrams, this Star Wars episode will keep you waiting until December 18th.
The killer interview
In the synopsis of this film, a talk show host and his producer are involved in an international plot. In reality, the film caused a diplomatic incident between North Korea and the US, which led to a series of hackings between the two countries. The film has finally been released and will be in cinemas on 28 January. The hyperactive James Franco and Seth Rogen share the bill.
Selma
In the running for the Oscar for Best Film, Selma is the story of Martin Luther King in the 1960s. It stars David Oyelowo (Interstellar, Jack Reacher etc), Oprah Winfrey, Tim Roth, Tom Wilkinson and many others. The film, which has been directed by Steven Spielberg, Michael Mann and Spike Lee, will be released on 11 March.
Cendrillon
This new interpretation of Cinderella’s adventures is directed by Kenneth Branagh (Thor, The Ryan Initiative), and will star Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, and the duo Richard Madden and Lily James as the prince and princess. See you on 25 March.
Mad Max Fury Road
2015 seems to be the year of comebacks in cinema. So it’s Mad Max’s turn to get a new lease on life. The film, which promises to be one of the blockbusters of the year, is directed by Geoges Miller. The cast is interesting, with Tom Hardy, unforgettable in the role of Bane, Charlize Theron and Zoe Kravitz for example. Shot in Namibia, the film will be released on 13 May.
Fast and Furious 7
After the tragic death of Paul Walker, which upset many fans, FAF7 is highly anticipated. The film is directed by James Wan. All the usual team is there: Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and others. We also find Jason Statham and Djimon Hounsou for a film that promises to be tough. To be discovered on April 1st.
