Every new year is an opportunity to try out new habits. Among the trends that are gaining ground, the Veganuary challenge is a must.
For its fifth French edition in 2025, Veganuary continues to mobilize millions of participants, retailers and cities, proving that vegan food is no longer a niche but a genuine social phenomenon.
A free, fun challenge
Created in 2014 in the UK, Veganuary encourages people to try out plant-based eating for the whole month of January. In France, the NGO L214 has been the official relay since 2021.
The challenge is based on a simple and effective principle. After registering, each participant receives free daily resources, including recipes, menu plans, videos and nutritional advice to meet this culinary challenge.
In 2024, 25 million people worldwide took part. So the success of Veganuary is confirmed! And the 2025 edition promises to be even more ambitious, with a record 220 French companies taking part.
Why join the movement?
1. For the planet
The transition to a vegan diet is one of the most effective ways of reducing individual carbon footprints. As meat production is responsible for a significant proportion of greenhouse gas emissions, choosing such alternatives, even temporarily, helps preserve natural resources.
2. For your health
Rich in fiber, vitamins and antioxidants, vegan diets offer proven health benefits, including reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and improved digestion.
3. For the animals
Veganuary raises awareness of ethical issues by highlighting the impact of intensive livestock farming. The challenge invites people to explore a way of consuming that favors animal life and promotes vegan alternatives.
4. For culinary discovery
Veganuary is also a gastronomic adventure. Tofu, seitan, plant-based cheeses, dairy-free desserts… The resources on offer allow you to explore innovative, accessible and delicious recipes.

Exceptional mobilization
The 2025 edition is marked by a massive commitment from both private and public players. Among the 220 participating companies are banners such as Intermarché and Bioburger.
For the first time, French municipalities such as Grenoble and Rouen are actively participating in Veganuary. In Grenoble, events are being organized with local restaurateurs, while Rouen is offering vegan menus in its community restaurants.
Volunteers from L214, meanwhile, are organizing activities all over France: tasting stands, vegan treasure hunts and other educational events to raise public awareness.
Veganuary, a movement with sustainable ambitions
More than just a challenge, Veganuary is part of a sustainable transformation of the food landscape. By encouraging brands to expand their vegan offerings and showing the general public that this type of eating can be simple and delicious, the challenge is helping to democratize this lifestyle.
