Tiit Tokyo – SS20

Day one of Rakuten Fashion Week featured Tokyo-based brand tiit’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection, bringing elegance and elements of minimalism to a confetti-coated runway.

Garments were kept to a neutral colour palette, focusing in on the quality of their materials. Tiit prides itself on collaborating with a team of skilled manufacturers to ensure that only high-grade materials are used in creating each and every piece. Designers Sho Iwata and Hiroshi Takizawa shared that they drew inspiration from the concept of “Imagined dream of daily life” for their contemporary-style brand. In doing so, they were able to create garments fit for everyday wear, yet augmented in terms of quality and structure.

The SS20 collection featured delicate materials tailored to flow along the body’s silhouette. Loose blazers complemented wide-leg pants to create a put-together yet casual look. tiit integrated sheer materials into monochrome styling, before introducing classic patterns to the runway, contrasting minimalism with subtle edge. Muted tones were often paired with checkered prints to create a balanced dynamic. Iwata and Takizawa favoured structured collars this season, shining a spotlight on dress shirts and trench coats throughout. In contrast to tiit’s previous work, the SS20 collection takes on a more natural and earthy essence. The AW19 release’s bright tones and bold patterns were absent, as the brand leaned towards a softened theme. Tiit communicated that, without the added noise of busy patterns and loud colours, a garment’s quality speaks for itself, once again encompassing the brand’s vision seamlessly on the RFW runway.
