Long confined to pure performance, cycling is now incorporating design and creativity into its equipment. Focus on a trend where aesthetics and technology have become one.
When style enters the peloton
While technical features remain the mainstay of cycling clothing, a new dimension is emerging: design. Colours, shapes, artistic collaborations… Cyclists’ clothing is no longer just a shield against the wind or the rain, it is also becoming a tool for personal expression. This development is in response to a generation of sportsmen and women who are more sensitive to issues of image, ethical commitment and aesthetics.
The emergence of co-creation in cycling
Many brands are now banking on partnerships with artists, collectives or influencers to design capsule collections. The aim: to break the mould and stand out visually, while maintaining performance. These co-creations give rise to unique pieces, often in limited editions, that appeal to both cycling enthusiasts and style lovers.
For example, a number of European brands have recently launched jerseys that combine textile innovation with floral or abstract motifs, the result of collaborations with fashion designers or urban graphic artists. The result is clothing that performs as well as it inspires, telling a story both in and out of the saddle.
A trend driven by cutting-edge brands
Gorewear is a good example of this trend, having unveiled two technical jerseys for summer 2025: one revisiting its logo in a multicoloured version, the other the result of a collaboration with a Berlin collective. But the brand is not alone. Labels such as Rapha, MAAP and Pas Normal Studios are also exploring the boundaries between art, sport and innovation.
Design for performance
Beyond aesthetics, design also incorporates environmental concerns. The use of recycled materials, eco-responsible manufacturing processes, traceability of textiles these commitments are now as visible as the patterns printed on the jerseys. Cyclists no longer want to choose between performance, style and values they want it all.
Cycling is no exception to the trend in modern sport, where every piece of equipment becomes a vehicle for innovation, identity and commitment. The road may remain the same, but the way it’s ridden is taking on new colours, messages and boldness.
