Will this choice change her career? Four days ago, the androgynous model announced on her Instagram account that she had changed her gender.
Out goes Andrej Pejic, in comes Andreja Pejic. Although she is comfortable as an androgynous woman, Andreja Pejic had a complicated operation which she is absolutely proud of and displays her joy on social networks such as on the photo (below) published 2 days ago on her instagram with the comment “I have to say nothing feels better than being a born again virgin : D lol”. Andreja has received a lot of support and testimonials, starting with Laverne Cox; the transgender star of “Orange is the New Black” who we quoted in our last issue‘s “Zoom In” article about her Emmy nomination. She congratulated the model via her Twitter account, welcoming her to transgender women.
She has wanted to make this metamorphosis for a very long time without ever having dared. She was recently the face of the spring/summer 2014 campaign for the MCM brand (below). A series of photos that clearly display her feminine side. The question is whether she still has a place of any kind on the catwalks and campaigns for men and women. We think so, because during men’s fashion weeks there are a number of women who walk alongside men; seen at Givenchy and Rynshu this year to name a few. Adulated by the greatest such as Jean Paul Gaultier, the fashion world will surely accept her choice which is more than a professional choice, but a social one.
