A collection that is modern yet ageless, luxurious yet unflashy, complete as an image but easy to split and personalize.
Balance is a feeling derived from being whole and complete; it’s a sense of harmony. The ground we walk on, the greens and creatures, the clouds above constantly dissolving into new formations – each gift of nature possessing its radiant energy, bound together by cosmic harmony.
Just like a simple melody with complex harmonies, the Earth is driven by an endless cycle of creation and destruction. At SONIA CARRASCO the creative process begins with a deconstruction of traditional shapes to reconstruct them and create different but harmonically connected creations.
The primal, organic nature of the SS22 collection asserts itself in the dynamic balance between the urban and the bucolic life where sharp multifunctional tailoring meets handmade macramé, crochet garments and details and, once again, Sonia has opted to turn a handmade tapestry into a dress creating a sense of a country wedding or a harvest festival.
Sonia Carrasco carefully selects and uses recycled, vegan or organic fibers highlighting the importance of exclusively using materials with the minimum impact on our planet. The SS22 collection uses vegan suede made from sugar cane, bio-linens, hemp, recycled cotton, regenerated plastic from fishing rods. Fabric with harmony with nature, an elemental balance.
Earthy tones such as natural white, sandy beige and browns harmonize the colour palette contrasted with a dash of bold earthy green, looking punchily chic in the selection of easy trenches in different shapes. Green, which is also related to our planet, is found as the bold color of the collection as a reference to a personal demand from the designer to stop deforestation as a tool to create a better future for our planet.
Cleverly, along the way, Sonia hints at the Spanish heritage of the Barraca featured within the handmade macramé and crochet garments highlighting traditional local crafts, making them protagonists in the collection with a clear spirit of awakening dormant crafts. The collection also hints at an unexpected sexiness to it all, the body-conscious fit of the “La Barraca” monogram bodies and midi dresses.
Infused with refined playfulness, Sonia creates from a multifunctional goal in mind. Hidden details such as adjustable length of the trousers; capri, bermuda or long. The Spring Summer bucket hats have been created with the two main inspirations of the collection in mind: deconstruction and multifunction to the foulard also found as a twist on the classic trench coat.
The deconstructed bucket hat is reconstructed by connecting the brim with recycled paper buttons keeping its functionality. Stripes shaped as Barracas fall from both sides along the body down to the waist, either used as a detail or a foulard, like many other pieces of the collection it merges the familiar with the unexpected.
