Priya is a talented young designer who takes elements of her dual Indo-Nigerian heritage and her London roots and explores them in vintage collectible clothing and using textile techniques to give them new life.
Ahluwalia photographs her own research which is an integral part of her design process. The brand focuses on creating unique avant-garde clothing for the modern man, using responsible sourcing and manufacturing techniques.
Today, Priya reveals the release of her book, Jalebi, a limited edition volume of photography, photographed by Laurence Ellis, which traces several aspects of the designer’s work and her mixed heritage living in modern Britain.
Each photograph reveals Ahluwalia’s world in a similar way to the way her designs colourfully combine the recycled and found clothing she acquires.
All of Jalebi’s profits, as well as sales of photographic prints, will be donated to the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust and the Southall Black Sisters. The book sells for £35.
In April this year, after successfully completing the LVMH Prize semi-finals, it was announced that Ahluwalia had been awarded the co-winner of the LVMH Prize 2020.
She also won the 2019 H&M Design Award and collaborated with Adidas at Paris Fashion Week for the AW19.
Ahlawalia is sold through retailers such as Browns, Matches, Ssense, LN-CC, Nubian Tokyo, N ID Tokyo, Stripe Inc and Addicted Korea.
Jalebi is a hard back book, comprised of 100 pages and will be available to buy at thelaunch event and online at www.ahluwaliastudio.com.
