The exhibition, “L’Empreinte du Geste” at the “Musée des Arts Décoratifs” in Paris, brings together 18 creators as part of the 2016 European Crafts Days from 29 March to 3 April. You still have the whole weekend to go and discover this unique exhibition on crafts!
More than an exhibition, “L’Empreinte du Geste” symbolises the meeting and exchange between creators and the general public at a time when we are questioning the modes of production and consumption of everyday manufactured objects. Know-how, the human gesture, has never had as much meaning and value as it does now. The beauty of gestures and our know-how must be transmitted from generation to generation, and it is this new generation of creators who preserve the gestures of the past but add a certain modernity. Several screenings are organised, but also a pop-up store to showcase the artists’ unique creations, and the implementation of participatory financing strategies to allow the creators to develop. The exhibition highlights the singularity and modernity of the crafts and their undeniable creative, social, cultural and economic role in the future.
Meet Flori Dupont , a young designer of silver jewellery inspired by vanitas symbols and the organic and vegetal world. She creates magnificent necklaces from castings of bird skulls. In the heart of a dark and poetic universe, the jewels reveal themselves as the discoveries of a buried treasure, fantastic and marvellous, black and fairy-like. Discover also Célia Casal and Florian Aviet, bookbinders and graphic designers. These two creators combine the art of traditional bookbinding with the modern know-how of graphic design. Today, bookbinding is a skill that combines traditional techniques, creativity, innovation and modernity. Their work is aimed at professionals, artists, photographers, publishers, booksellers, jewellers, bibliophiles, companies, communities and institutions.
