For Paris Fashion Week, Evian & Balmain present a unique Evian recycled plastic couture dress made from innovative technology.
Evian® Balmain are taking their recently announced collaboration a step further by creating a unique couture dress designed and crafted by Olivier Rousteing from a fabric made from evian recycled plastic bottles. It is perfectly in line with their common vision: to imagine together sustainable innovations for future generations.
The evian x Balmain dress was presented today at the Balmain Festival, at the Jean Bouin Stadium during the Paris Fashion Week. This unique piece is part of the designer’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection and was worn by VIP talent Léna Mahfouf for the event. A limited edition bottle in 75cL glass, decorated with a baroque pattern imagined by Olivier Rousteing completes this collaboration and will be released in October 2022.
As part of Paris Fashion Week, evian presented today its latest collaboration with Parisian fashion house Balmain: a couture dress, made from a fabric composed of 46% recycled material from 100% rPET evian bottles. Unveiled as part of Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2023 Collection at the Stade Jean Bouin during the Balmain Festival, this made-to-measure evian x Balmain creation was worn for the first time by Léna Mahfouf.
To take the collaboration a step further, and offer a more sustainable approach to fashion, Olivier Rousteing oversaw the creation of this couture dress, woven from a monofilament made from 100% recycled evian bottles (rPET). This filament can itself be easily recycled or used again to make new bottles. In line with the brand’s commitment to become 100% circular by 2025, this evian x Balmain dress is another example of a method of recycling and creating value from plastic.
For this model, Olivier Rousteing played on the unique sculptural possibilities of this innovative fabric to proudly showcase the purity and power of evian natural mineral water. Sophisticated pleating and the volumes used evoke the curves of water’s movement. “Balmain is obviously one of the oldest and most famous houses in Paris,” notes Olivier Rousteing, Artistic Director of Balmain.
“I always draw inspiration from the heritage of this house, going through our archives and relying on the traditional and inimitable know-how of our legendary workshops, to bring my designs to life. However, I am determined to create even more surprising, innovative and, above all, modern collections using new tools. My team and I are always looking for inventive solutions that allow us to perfect the latest advances in technology, craftsmanship and fabric. That’s why we loved exploring all the possibilities that this Balmain x evian collaboration presented.”
Dawid Borowiec, Global Brand Director for evian, added:
“We are extremely excited to see our beautiful creation come to life at the Balmain Festival and shine a spotlight on this innovative recycling technology we have developed. This unique dress represents the best we can do at the intersection of innovation, design and sustainability. This is an incredible first step in our unique collaboration with Balmain and Olivier Rousteing.”
United around the heritage of the French Alps (Pierre Balmain was born in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne) and a desire to innovate for future generations, evian and Balmain are joining forces to explore new possibilities and redefine together the codes of a more sustainable fashion. This multi-faceted project is the latest collaboration for evian, a brand that is constantly demonstrating its commitment to a more sustainable world tomorrow.
With more than 15 years of collaboration with leading fashion brands, evian will launch its annual limited edition 75cL glass bottles in several international markets at the end of October, in partnership with Balmain. Symbolizing the two brands’ shared ambition, the new bottle features light blue lace detailing, baroque decorative motifs, and water droplets inspired by evian natural mineral water, all adorned with Balmain’s signature gold lettering. An ideal gift for the upcoming holiday season.
